You Got This

Before you continue reading, go and read 2 Kings 4:1-7

A widow comes to Elisha in need of help. Her husband who was faithful to God is dead and now the debt is due. She has nowhere else to look; she is at a point in her life that seems horrific. Her husband, partner, best friend is gone and now the threat of her two sons being taken away from her as well. During these times she would not be able to provide for herself, she would need a man. Her two sons are her future assurance as well.

And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.” (2 Kings 4:3-4)

Elisha challenges the widow in her faith. Go collect as many jars as you can and pour the olive oil that you already have into the jars until each one is filled. Will you trust God even when logically it doesn’t make sense?

Notice from the beginning Elisha asks her what do you have? What currently do you have that can help you in your situation. God doesn’t need you to get something before He can use you. You currently have what you need, and if you are faithful with it, He will be faithful to you.

God doesn’t need you to get something before He can use you

In our society, it is always about the next thing. We need the new model car because it's the new model, obviously. The iPhone 7 obviously needs to be living in my pocket because this old iPhone 6s is falling apart (I mean My pictures are only 1.2 megapixels). We are always in search of the next thing but God is telling us we don’t need anything else, we just need to step out in faith. Use what we have and be faithful with it.

“Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons. “There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing. When she told the man of God what had happened, he said to her, “Now sell the olive oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on what is left over.” (2 Kings 4:6-7)

God will provide even when there doesn’t seem to be a way. But there is a part of me that asks, what if they collected more jars? Did they collect a certain amount and then decide that little flask can’t fill all of these so why collect more?

God can take the thing you have disqualified and qualify it

I believe there is something in your life that you have decided is not capable, not sufficient, but through your faith even in the little things God can and will do great things, things that are bigger and greater than our comprehension.

Stop right now and look at what God has given you. What you currently have that you may be neglecting God is waiting for you to use. Don’t look outside of your house for the things that can be utilized but look inside, inside of you and see what God can do that only He can do.
